5 Things To Do on a Boat (Besides Boating)

Boating is one of the most popular pastimes in our country, for good reason. There is simply so much to enjoy about being on the water.

But besides the sun, the fun, and all the water activities, boating offers so much more. Here are 5 of our favorite boating activities that aren’t all about boating.

  1. Fishing

All three of our launch locations offer incredible fishing. While we don’t provide the fishing poles and bait, we can tell you some of our favorite hidden fishing spots along the Fox River, Chain of Lakes and Bangs Lake. Read more about fishing the Fox River and Chain of Lakes here.

  2. Wine Tasting

Wine tasting and wine flights are available as an add-on amenity to Barrington Boat Club members. We can even have a sommelier join you on board to discuss the wines. This makes a unique and enjoyable sunset activity for adult groups.

  3. Dockside Dining

Arriving in style on a boat to a waterfront restaurant makes a regular night out just a little more special. There are so many interesting and delicious spots to choose from along the Fox River and dotting the Chain of Lakes. We have favorites; ask us about our top choices for casual and more upscale dining.

  4. Lilypad

Floating the day away. Our giant lily can be loaded onto the boat for you ahead of time. Simply unroll it and toss it overboard. We love spending the hottest summer days lounging, splashing, swimming and diving between the boat and the lily pad.

  5. Bird Watching

The natural setting and park district preservation areas along the Fox River and Chain of Lakes makes it ideal for spotting nature in its element. Stop and watch, or just keep an eye out as you cruise along. Avid bird watchers will enjoy seeing some of the more unusual species in the area, and you could be the lucky one to spot the rare bald eagle.
